St Mary's Church, Westonzoyland
Children in Church
Children and young people are very welcome to all our services. We use an area of the Church in the North Transept which is permanently set up with chairs, tables, display boards and a selection of books, toys, colouring sheets and games. As our Church is also a visitors centre, children are welcome to use these facilities while the adults look around the Church.
At each Sunday service appropriate colouring books, relating to the Gospel reading, are put out . On the fourth Sunday of every month, at the All Age Worship service, a themed activity is organised. This is a supervised activity and Children and Young people are encouraged to participate in the service by singing with the congregation, joining in with prayer and sharing with others what they have been doing or making during the service. This is followed by a drink and a well earned biscuit.
We fully understand that not all children are able to be quiet and sit still and we have a relaxed approach to this. We encourage families with young children to feel comfortable during services by welcoming children and young people of all ages.
Family Craft Workshops
These are held twice a year in the Church Hall and the emphasis is on encouraging families to make and do things together. The workshops are held at Christmas and Easter and offer a wide range of activities. There is no charge, although donations towards cost of materials is appreciated. Refreshments are also available.
Westonzoyland Church Youth Group (Friday Club)
Friday Club meets every Friday during term time in the Church Hall, Main Road Westonzoyland.
There are two age groups
Year 4 to Year 6 6.30pm to 7.30pm
Year 7 to Age 16 8.00pm to 9.00pm
The cost is £1.00 payable on the door
We are fortunate that the Church Hall is divided into two areas, so we are able to provide a variety of activities, including sports such as basketball, football, table tennis snooker, table football and team games in one area and a comfortable sitting area, craft tables and tuck shop in the other.
The Youth Club is staffed by volunteers who have all been appointed in line with the Diocesan Safeguarding Policy procedures and good practice guidelines.
